The Philadelphia 76ers were the surprise of the early season. They upset the Miami Heat, and just generally looked quite surprising for a team that was so blatantly tanking. Turns out that was an abberation. The team has struggled since, and now at 9-21 are one of the worst in the Eastern Conference (along with the Knicks and the Nets). There are some very bright spots that have come with the 76ers this year, one of them is their young point guard.
The Nuggets did not face Michael Carter-Williams the first time they played back in December. It will be interesting to see how Ty Lawson handles the lanky playmaker (who, I swear to god looks like my local paper boy). Other than that the ever struggling, almost good, Evan Turner is (potentially unhappily) still on this roster. Spencer Hawes, everyones most hated agitator is on the roster as well. Both are in the starting lineup. The Nuggets managed to squeak out a win in Philly when they last played … maybe they can use that as motivation to break their current 7 game losing streak.
Is Philadelphia the model the Nuggets should have followed this season with Danilo Gallinari out of the lineup? It is an interesting question.
Nuggets of Wisdom
Randy Foye has returned to the starting lineup for the Nuggets. This begs the question, what is the motivation for this season for our beloved basketball team? Is it winning? Is it development?
The continual slotting of Foye into the starting lineup over Jordan Hamilton and Evan Fournier makes me wonder what the Nuggets are trying to accomplish. Which Foye looked better against the Heat on Monday night, does that mean he automatically deserves time over players you have invested draft picks in? It’s a curious decision.
Meanwhile, Nate Robinson has been so bad lately, and such a negative force on the court, it is perplexing why he still gets the amount of time he does now. While he is the human comeback, it seems like the team responds negatively when HE is being a negative force. Is that something the Nuggets need to address? All in all, I wonder what the Nuggets, with longest losing streak they’ve had since 2003, are trying to accomplish. Do they want to develop these young players? Or are they trying to “win”?
The fact that nobody knows tells us all we need to know I guess.
