Last years D-League MVP Jarnell Stokes has been waived by the Denver Nuggets. There’s been no indication yet of the reason for that release, but we’ll continue to update this as more information becomes available.
Stokes received a lot of consideration in the pre-season but had only appeared in two games for the Nuggets in the regular season in garbage-time. This leaves Denver without a true center backup for their two-headed monster of Nikola Jokic and Jusuf Nurkic. Stokes has a foot injury that kept him out of Sunday’s game against the Portland Trail Blazers, but any speculation about the nature of that injury – or about the Nuggets needing that 15th roster spot due to the raft of other injuries they are currently suffering through – is at this point premature.
The full press release is below – more details to come as we hear more from the Denver front office.
