Demarius Thomas and Jimmy Butler are vacationing together in Greece and apparently, Thomas is working to recruit Butler to join him someday in the Mile High City.
The two sports stars developed a friendship a few years back when Butler read a profile of Thomas in ESPN the magazine. Butler was moved by Thomas’ life story and related to many of the things that he learned about Thomas in that story. He soon reached out and the two quickly became friends.
The two have been in Greece for about a week and have posted pictures of their trip on Instagram.
Butler can become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the upcoming NBA season. There have been a handful of rumors and reports out of Minnesota that Butler is discontent with some of his teammates. He also recently rejected a four-year extension from the Timberwolves, reportedly worth $110 million, hinting that a breakup might be in store for Butler and the Wolves at some point in the near future.
Of course, Butler would be a near perfect fit if he could somehow wind up on the Denver nuggets roster. There probably aren’t more than one a couple of players who could fill so many of Denver’s needs. Butler has the size to play small forward, a position Denver needs. He is an elite on ball defender, an experienced veteran, and a versatile scorer who can be relied upon in the clutch. He’d be an excellent pick-and-roll partner with Nikola Jokic and could single-handedly improve vault the Nuggets defense into the top 10 of he league.
Denver would probably be a longshot to land Butler, either via trade or as a free agent in 2019. Nonetheless, Thomas’s recruiting efforts – however tongue-in-cheek they might be – are still appreciated. At the very least, Thomas is planting the idea in Butler’s head.
