Tim Duncan quietly announced today that he will be retiring after 19 seasons with the San Antonio Spurs. Arguably the greatest power forward of all time, Duncan finishes his career as a five-time NBA champion, two-time MVP and eight-time member of the All NBA Defensive First Team to go along with 15 All-Star appearances.
Duncan will no doubt be missed as his loyalty to San Antonio enabled the Spurs to have one of the most dominant 19 year stretch in pro sports. Since drafting him first overall in 1997, the Spurs posted a 1072-438 regular season record. San Antonio’s dominance was solidified in the postseason where with Duncan they won 157 playoff games in that span, including an 8-2 record against the Nuggets in two series that Denver didn’t stand a chance in.
