This tweet of the week isn’t going to make Nuggets fans smile or laugh. In fact, it’s probably going to spur thoughts of anger and maybe even resentment. One of the stories of the NBA lately is the great play of Jusuf Nurkic since he was traded to the Portland Trail Blazers after becoming disgruntled with his role on the Nuggets. Since the trade, he has averaged 16.5 points and 9.6 rebounds. And his best game of his career just came Thursday night against the Philadelphia 76ers when he put up this ridiculous stat line: 28 points, 20 rebounds, 8 assists, 6 blocks and 2 steals.
This is what Emmanuel Mudiay had to say about his former teammate’s performance:
I can’t say that I’m confident most Nuggets fans feel the way Mudiay does. While we should be happy that Nurkic has found himself a new home in Portland and is thriving in that environment, it is upsetting to know that the Nuggets had such a great asset and couldn’t make it work. After all, we have our own big man to be excited about in Nikola Jokic. Still, while many fans may be shaking their heads about what could have been, I think in time the negative feelings will fade and all that will be left will be relief that the Nuggets were able to recognize and capitalize on the talent that is Jokic. It may just take some time.
