The Denver Nuggets have now matched up twice already this early season against the Sacramento Kings. Unfortunately for the Nuggets, they dropped both of those games to help themselves fall to a disappointing 1-3 start to the season. For Monte Morris, however, these games had a special element to them, as he got to face off against a fellow Iowa State alumnus, rookie Tyrese Haliburton. On Wednesday, Morris took to Twitter in order to send some encouraging words to the former Cyclone.
Tuesday night’s game was a big one for both Morris and Haliburton. Morris earned the starting point guard spot due to an elbow injury sustained by Jamal Murray, and it’s safe to say he made the most of the opportunity. He scored 24 points on 10/15 shooting, to go along with four assists and only one turnover. On the other side, first-year player Haliburton contributed to the winning effort from his team by scoring 13 points on 5/7 shooting, to go along with six assists.
Despite the fact that the Nuggets were not able to win either game against the Kings, it must have been a special feeling for Morris to face off against Haliburton, who he knew back when Haliburton was still an aspiring NBA player. Not only that, but Morris was able to have one of the best games of his career against him. Unfortunately, Morris and the Nuggets will have to wait until February 6th in order to get a third chance at revenge against the Kings.
