In the wake of a disappointing loss to the Denver Nuggets, Kevin Durant had some interesting comments to reporters after the game.
"When I signed with the Warriors, I thought I was signing with a team that was going to be winning every game we played," the 28-year-old former MVP said. "I thought I was joining a team with the best players in the league, and now, I'm not so sure."
The talented small forward grabbed a stat sheet from his locker, and pointed to the Nuggets box score.
"Look at these young guys – Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Juancho Hernangomez – these guys are future superstars," Durant said. "I've never had the blessing of playing with a big man that can pass the ball like he can."
When asked if this meant he was considering the Nuggets as a future team he could see himself playing for, the former Texas Longhorn rubbed his chin and paused for a moment.
"I'm not going to come out and say I'd like a trade. I love the guys in this locker room, and I think we have the best shot in the league to win a championship this year. But it's something I'm definitely going to have to think about when I enter free agency soon."
The 10-year-veteran signed a contract in the 2016 offseason with the Golden State Warriors, months after being defeated by that team in the Western Conference Finals while a member of the Oklahoma City Thunder after having a 3-1 series lead. The Golden State Warriors would eventually blow a 3-1 lead to the Cleveland Cavaliers, despite having the unanimous MVP and homecourt advantage.
Durant has a player option for the 2017-18 season.
Nikola Jokic and other Nuggets teammates declined to comment when asked about Durrant's statements.
"We're just happy to be winning games, and love the city of Denver and their fans," Nuggets guard Jamal Murray said.
