MILWAUKEE, WI – While spending the day here in Milwaukee with my grandmother (a lifelong Bucks fan), I’ve been able to get some insight into the team we’re facing tonight.
I did this last season, as well, when my grandmother helped me preview the Nuggets/Bucks game on February 22nd (a Nuggets loss after losing to the Bulls the night before). This season's Bucks team is quite different from last season's: they're younger (read: cheaper), hungrier, play hard and have already surprised some people by starting out 3-2. But don't let me attempt to scout the Bucks properly, let's ask the real expert, my 97-year-old grandmother…
On Michael Redd being injured…
"Redd's on his way out. He lost a lot of weight in the offseason, which is a good thing, but he's not as intense as he once was. But he's getting older and that happens when you get older. The problem is that Charlie Bell, while I like him, can't replace Redd."
On Dan Gadzuric…
"I can't stand Gadgy. He's a nincompoop. He hasn't made a free throw all season."
On departed players…
"I'm sorry we lost Via Via (my grandmother's nickname for ex-Buck Charlie Villanueva). He tried to beat us the other night but couldn't. I also liked Ramon Sessions. I liked Richard Jefferson, but he never really did his part. He never played up to par."
On Brandon Jennings…
"He's fantastic. He's a good shot in the arm for us."
On head coach Scott Skiles…
"He's a good coach and the players like him."
On current GM John Hammond…
"He's sure as hell trying to get rid of some baggage and he's better than the last guy (Larry Harris) who made some mistakes and just lived off his father's name."
On Andrew Bogut…
"I love Andy Bogut. And how could I not? His name is Andy like my grandson!"
In other words, tonight's Non-Stiffs are Brandon Jennings and Andrew Bogut and the Stiffs are Dan Gadzuric and Charlie Bell. You heard it from an expert.
