Just before this long homestand began, some of us were asked for our predictions. I turned out to be wrong, thinking the team would go 6-1 (Damn you, Brook Lopez!!!!). Sooooooo close! While I might have been wrong on their record, the Nuggets still have a chance to post an extremely solid homestand (for any team not in one of the Sans – Antonio or Francisco). Beat the Washington Wizards, and you have not only a great record on the homestand, but you also post your longest winning streak of the season.
Just beat John Wall and the Wizards…
Another prediction of mine, one that looks even more foolish, was my preseason choice for MVP – John Wall. In fairness, I don't think anyone – even those who picked Curry to repeat – could have predicted the historic season he is currently posting – not that Wall is even currently in the top five candidates. But just as Curry's performance really wasn't foreseeable, the complete and total early season collapse by the Wizards came out of left field. Wall has actually still had a very solid season, but injuries and a team wide case of defensive amnesia left them fighting for their playoff lives. They've played better since the break, and Denver will have to play well themselves if they want to continue their winning ways.
