Another scrimmage, another highlight package for Bol Bol. Bol had a more modest stat line this time against the Orlando Magic: 10 points, 6 rebounds, a lonely block. But his impact on the comeback attempt tonight by the Denver Nuggets can’t be overstated: he changed shots, hit important buckets, and once again showed he can be in this rotation in short order. When you watch Bol come around a screen and swish a three, it’s not hyperbole to say that’s a skill that will get him minutes.
Now, “short order” still likely means next season. The likelihood that coach Michael Malone wants to change his expected playoff rotation due to a couple of scrimmages with a player who has zero minutes of live game action in the NBA is pretty low. But Bol continues to show he’s deserved these minutes, and will deserve many more next year.
He’s not a trade sweetener or a two-way project. Bol Bol is another example of Denver reaching out and taking someone in the draft who can help them over this next stretch of years. The cupboards are well-stocked, and Bol can get whatever Denver needs off that top shelf.
