Jamal Murray is lightning in a bottle. When he catches it there are few things more spectacular, and he caught that lightning tonight in a big way. Murray made 19 of 30 shots on his way to 48 points as the Nuggets clawed back from an 18 point first quarter deficit to defeat the Boston Celtics in Denver. Before the game Jamal talked about learning from Kyrie Irving as they played. Irving was also spectacular in this game, but for tonight the student outshone the master.
Murray struggled with some early on-ball pressure, finishing with five turnovers, but when Denver couldn’t buy a bucket early the Blue Arrow changed his approach and took it upon himself to score in huge numbers. He drove the hoop, finished in the lane, and made 5 of 11 threes (even taking one at the buzzer in an attempt to break the 50 point barrier, angering some of the Celtics). Murray was on fire, and in a game where Denver was punched in the mouth early and Nikola Jokic got into foul trouble, Murray shouldered the offensive burden and carried the team to victory in a Pepsi Center classic.
The fans shook the rafters in a playoff atmosphere, but it was Murray who blew the roof off and will be the talk of the town. Check out his outstanding game highlights below!
