It took a little longer than normal, but Jokic was able to lead the Nuggets to another win over the Phoenix Suns on Saturday night.
All Jokić did was put up 29 points, 20 rebounds and six assists in 42 minutes, as the Nuggets need double overtime to put away the resilient Suns, who were without Devin Booker after the young star suffered a hamstring injury in the game last night. Jokić was especially dominant in overtime, taking advantage of the Suns defense without DeAndre Ayton who fouled out during the first overtime period.
Jokić didn’t shoot particularly well, missing 12 of his 21 shots with nary a 3-point attempt, but went to the free throw line for 14 attempts, abusing the Suns big men whenever he had a chance. Michael Porter Jr. was the only other Nuggets players to have double digit rebounds, as Jokić was stealing missed shots left and right.
At some point we just have to expect that this is what Jokić is going to do every single night. He is playing like an MVP, and deserves to be in the conversation as one of the best players in the league. He is playing unreal basketball to start this season, and tonight was no different.
Denver gets Sunday off, and will play the Dallas Mavericks on Monday night in their third straight road game.
