Kenneth Faried is hosting the first-annual Slam Dunk Against Lupus (SDAL) event on Saturday, Sept. 23 at the University of Denver’s Magness Arena. The event runs from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. and is the creation of The Lupus Research Alliance. For those who don’t know, Faried’s mother suffers from Lupus and it is something he’s discussed in the past. His concerns over her health are one of the reasons he’s given for winding up at Morehead State instead of a bigger Division I school, and thus one of the reasons he was available to the Denver Nuggets later in the first round.
With Lupus as such a factor in his life and his family’s well-being, it’s great to see him able to get involved in this sort of charity in the city he’s spent his NBA career in. From the press release:
Events will include:
Kids slam dunk contest (ages 10-18; three different groupings) with NBA players serving as judges
Performance by Denver Nuggets Elevation Dunk Squad & Drumline
Half-court shooting contest for a grand prize
Nuggets mascot Rocky and other interactive entertainment
Drawings throughout the day for special prizes and unique, fun activities
Three-point shooting contests with students, corporate sponsors, NBA players and other invited celebrities
