Malik Beasley is working hard to finally earn consistent minutes with the Denver Nuggets. On Friday, head coach Michael Malone spoke candidly about how well Beasley has played in camp so far and what it might take for him to crack the rotation. The next step is slowing things down and staying consistent.
On Saturday, Malik himself spoke on his approach to what’s been described as a successful camp for the 21 year-old. “I think I’ve been playing pretty well, just staying calm, not rushing—slowing down is my main thing this training camp,” Beasley told the Denver Stiffs. “It’s (something that) comes with enough experience and confidence (from working hard) in the summertime.”
Beasley has run with the second unit in the five-on-five scrimmages that Denver’s been working into their practices. He explained that he’s been tasked with guarding Gary Harris. No small feat. “Every practice is tough because he’s such a great defender and offensive threat, so it’s been helping me a lot. I’d rather go against (him) than anyone else, because he’s such a great player. I’d rather push myself.”
