In this episode of the Locked On Nuggets podcast, I am joined by NBA Draft expert, JZ Mazlish of The Step Back and SB Nation. We get started on the podcast with a really fascinating conversation about the way we look at NBA prospects and how a great 3rd option can be more valuable than a mediocre 1st option. Lonzo Ball is the launch pad for this discussion since both JZ and I see Lonzo as an elite playmaking 3rd or 4th best player on a championship team, whereas other prospects in this draft fit more of the 1st option on a mediocre team. Mazlish also compares Lonzo to Nikola Jokic, a comparison I have also made in the past.
From there we talk about Jonathan Isaac and how he has the tools to be an incredible role player and defensive mutli-tool. We discuss Zach Collins and OG Anunoby and their fit in Denver.
The second half of the podcast is on two players that I am increasingly intrigued by as 2nd round options for Denver: Cameron Oliver, out of Nevada, and Sterling Brown, out of SMU. Both guys fit the defense plus stay in your lane wing players that could pair very nicely to Jokic and the rest of the Nuggets core. Both rae names that I haven’t heard a lot of chatter about in most Nuggets/draft circles so it was really refreshing to hear some in-depth analysis on those two.
