The Nuggets were running some 5-on-5 when the media was let into the practice court today. The scrimmage was pretty intense and after it was over some individual drills got underway.
The bigs — Kosta Koufos, Kenneth Faried, JaVale McGee, Anthony Randolph, and Timofey Mozgov — were running some contact drills inside with Ryan Bowen holding a pad and creating the contact as the bigs finished layups and dunks. Melvin Hunt was helping run things and making up different versions of inside play.
On the far end of the court — Andre Miller and Evan Fournier were practicing three pointers, jumpers on the run, and free throws.
And on one of the side hoops, Quincy Miller was working with Tim Grgurich and Vance Walberg on some shooting drills of his own. I was watching Quincy go “around the world” and take shots from each baseline, the elbows, and the top of the key. The rate at which he was sinking jumpers drew my attention and I caught the following video of him hitting 10 free throws in a row — he made three or four more after I stopped filming too (you’ll have to take my word for it). I’m sure he is capable and does make a lot more in a row than what I got on video, but it was still cool to see.
Impressive stuff from the rookie.
Sidenote:
-If you have access to HBOGO or Ondemand — there is an amazing documentary on UNLV right now and it features a little Grgurich from the 1980's and 90's as he was on Jerry Tarkanian's staff.
