The NBA announced the winners of their all-rookie team and there are two familiar names on the list. Nikola Jokic earned first team all-rookie honors with 73 first team votes, the fourth most first place votes. The selection comes on the heels of Jokic finishing third in rookie of the year voting. He is the first Denver Nuggets player to make first team all-rookie since Kenneth Faried earned that honor in 2012.
Emmanuel Mudiay was selected second team all-rookie. He received 35 first team votes but fell well short of the five players selected to the team ahead of him. He received nearly the identical number of votes as his fellow rookie point guard, D’Angelo Russell and was the third highest vote-getter at the guard position behind both Russell and Devon Booker.

The selection to the all-rookie team is especially impressive when you consider the field of rookies in this year’s draft class. Stanley Johnson, Frank Kaminsky, Bobby Portis, Josh Richardson, and Mario Hezonja all had notable rookie seasons and probably would’ve been selected to all-rookie teams in seasons past but this year the field was especially competitive. And while it’s easy to feel that Jokic got slighted for finishing so far behind Kristaps Porzingis and Booker, take solica in knowing that someone gave votes to Marcelo Huertas, Joe Young, and Jerian Grant. The all-rookie voting process isn’t exactly scientific, objective, or even reasonable.
But hey, two rookies on the list is a nice prize.
