The Nuggets have announced their summer league roster for the Las Vegas, July 14th-20th. Evan Fournier, Quincy Miller, and Izzet Turkyilmaz will all be on the roster (this year’s rookies) along with current Nuggets Kenneth Faried, Jordan Hamilton, and Julyan Stone. Last season’s late second round pick Chu Chu Maduabum will also be on the team. Link to the official list and schedule right here.
Turkyilmaz – I was able to see him workout at the Pepsi Center before the Nuggets drafted him. You can look at his height and weight and see that he's skinny, but let me tell you … he's skinny! He was battling a center from Florida State at the workout, the FSU guy was a big dog, and Izzet was able to use his speed and touch to score a couple buckets. He has nice skills for a big man, will be interesting to see how he fills out.
The rest of the team:
Solomon Alabi: He has played with the Nuggets before and is a big 7’1” center out of Florida State. He has been a professional for two seasons now.
One year of experience:
Gani Lawal: Played college ball at Georgia Tech, he’s 23 years old and spent time overseas last season. He had a cup-of-coffee with the Suns (who drafted him) and Spurs organizations. Actually replaced Kenyon Martin in China after he left the team, was eventually waived in favor of former NBA player Ike Diogu once the playoffs started in China.
Other Rookies:
Josh Carter: Out of Texas A&M – 6'7'' wing. Now 25 years old, his best college days came in 2006-07 when he co-led the NCAA in three-point shooting. Been a bit of a nomad since turning pro in 2009.
Jorge Gutierrez: Out of California – 6'3'' guard. He went un-drafted this year in the 2012 NBA Draft. He was the Pac 12's Player of the Year and the conference's Defensive Player of the Year as well. He hails from the same hometown as former Nugget Eduardo Najera – Chihuahua, Mexico.
Demonte Harper: Out of Morehead State – 6'4'' forward. He hit the big three-point shot that bounced Louisville from the NCAA tournament two years ago – a former teammate of Faried's at Morehead State.
Derwin Kitchen: Out of Florida State – 6'4'' guard. He's 26 years-old and last played at FSU during the 2010-11 season and averaged 10.4 points per game.
