This past offseason, one of the NBA’s predominant storylines centered around the introduction of Nike as the new captain for rebranding all 30 NBA teams. Most teams have seen minor changes to their brand, including uniform modifications to catch the eye of the public. For the Denver Nuggets, four new jerseys were designed specifically for the 2017-18 season, focusing on a dedication to navy blue as a primary color.
Now, according to Conrad Burry of SportsLogos, the Nuggets and Nike plan to incorporate more changes to the primary colors the team will wear in the 2018-19 season and beyond, starting with an ode to the 1990’s.

That’s right, the Nuggets may be bringing back the 1990’s colors during the 2018-19 season. Notice that instead of the powder blue featured prominently, the logo features a darker tone, centered on navy blue and gold with a red accent. According to Burry, the Nuggets will incorporate this retro look into their primary color scheme, shifting entirely away from the powder blue era of the 2000’s Nuggets.

This shouldn’t come as a surprise to fans. The Nuggets are making an effort to reconnect with the community in Denver, and altering the color scheme to a time when the Nuggets first made the greatest upset in NBA history is a nice touch. The colors of the Colorado flag are red, blue, and gold, and this redesign brings them much closer to that.

With the team on the verge of a solid to borderline elite era of basketball in Denver, it’s time for a rebrand anyway. The Nuggets feature Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, Gary Harris, and Paul Millsap today. None of the players were a significant part of the previous era, and given the generally youthfully age of the group, it’s expected that they will be around for awhile. Denver Nuggets fans should expect to see a fresh, new look for Denver’s young stars, and the proposed color scheme would differentiate them from other teams in a way this season’s primary uniforms certainly haven’t accomplished.
