In a bit of surprising news, it is reported that the Oklahoma City Thunder extended forward Serge Ibaka to a 4 year $48 million contract Saturday morning. This makes any extension of 6th man of the year James Harden a bit tricky. Without an amnesty of a player (cough … Kendrick Perkins … cough) or a trade, an extension of Harden would almost certainly put OKC in luxury tax territory in 2013-14.
Couple that with owner Aubrey McClendon's "issues" and this makes for a very intriguing problem for the Thunder going forward. It will be interesting to see how they make their way through the financial wickets the next couple years.
