August 13, 2019 was the day the Denver Nuggets announced the signing of PJ Dozier to a two-way contract. Since that time, Dozier has absolutely torn apart the G-League and is becoming one of the best two-way contract players in the NBA.
Today, the G-League announced that Dozier was voted All G-League Showcase First Team on top of being named the player of the week. Dozier averaged 22.5 points, 11 rebounds, and eight assists per game at the showcase last week.
On the season, Dozier has played in 13 games for the Windy City Bulls and is averaging 20.2 points, 8.2 assists, and 6.5 rebounds per game. Dozier is doing all that while shooting an efficient 42 percent from the field and 35 percent from beyond the arc.
His offense is not the only thing that stands out as Dozier is averaging just under two steals (1.8) and just under one block per game (0.8). Dozier has yet to appear in a game for the Nuggets this season, but Michael Malone is not afraid to throw him into the lineup if that time ever comes.
“If we have to use PJ tonight, so be it.” Malone said ahead of the Nuggets game on December 12. “I have confidence in him.”
On that night, Jamal Murray and Paul Millsap were both questionable and ended up playing, but the fact that Malone and the Nuggets are not afraid to use him is a fantastic sign.
The preseason is the only time we have seen Dozier on the court in a Nuggets uniform and he certainly did not disappoint. In just four games, Dozier averaged 5.8 points, 1.5 rebounds, and one assist in just 8.6 minutes per game.
Dozier currently ranks third in the G-League in assists per game and is 17th in points per game. One stat that really speaks highly of Dozier is his minutes per game, which in fourth in the G-League at 36.8 per night. The more Dozier is on the floor, the more he can develop and that is going to be huge if the Nuggets see him as part of their future moving forward.
