Before we begin, I am reminded of this quote:
“Did you know that disco record sales were up 400% the year ending 1976? If these trends continue … aaayyy.”
–Disco Stu, The Simpsons
Ponder this quote while I re-acclimate myself to the Atlanta Hawks roster. So if you will excuse me, talk amongst yourselves…
Muttering to myself
Lets see…ok, Al Horford seems to be playing out of his mind since the All Star break, yep. Ummmmm…oh, looks like Kyle Korver is on the roster, three point shooter. Jeff Teague is a competent floor general … and uhhh…Devin Harris is backing him up. Hmmm…how the mighty have fallen eh? DeShawn Stevenson? Meh, he’s alright. At the three spot we have Josh Sm-
NO! NO NO NO NO NO! I will not speak his name again. Never has a player who's had the career of this individual been so coveted by a readership of a blog. I will forever see "redacted" every think of his name, and a black bar will appear over him when I watch the Altitude broadcast. Thank you Stiffs! You have ruined me for this person. In order for me to remain sane I will attempt to write a competent preview without mentioning that particular player.
So where were we?
Larry Drew is a good coach who seems to get the most out of his roster, or does the roster succeed in spite of him? After managing to get rid of Joe Johnson’s ridiculous contract, it is assumed that general manager Danny Ferry will make a run at Dwight Howard in the offseason. Who knows what will happen at this point. The Hawks are a good but not great team even with Horford playing fantastic basketball of late.
Nuggets of Wisdom
Nuggets seem to be putting everything together. This recent break in between the game against the Oklahoma City Thunder and tonight’s game probably helped to get Danilo Gallinari more healthy for the stretch run. Make no mistake the Nuggets NEED a healthy Gallo to be any factor in the playoffs. Injured Gallo just isn’t the same player, and he is reluctant to shoot. He has been so good this year for the Nuggets and he needs to get back to that spot.
Also, Wilson Chandler has alternated inspired games with poor shooting games. This is what you are probably going to get with a player recovering from hip surgery. The extra day between games probably benefited Chandler as well. He needs to keep playing at a high level for the Nuggets to be a big factor in the stretch run.
Ty Lawson has been playing great basketball (well, last game he was like the rest of the starters and didn’t show up, but that game winning shot was amazing) and if he keeps up his aggressiveness this team will be that much better. Lawson has also been named the Western Conference Player of the Week after averaging 21 points, 7 assists and 1.67 steals for the Nuggets. Additionally George Karl coached what was probably his best game of the year on Friday night. We need an engaged George Karl to get anywhere.
Nuggets are charging for a higher seed. Need to keep the pedal to the metal.
Go Nuggets!
