Some losses just seem inevitable. After trailing 13-2 to start the game, the only question seemed to be how the Nuggets would lose, not if they would. The Nuggets fought hard, rallying back at several points throughout the game, but the Mavericks seemed to be able to get what they wanted on offense whenever they wanted.
The full recap will be up shortly but here are a few quick notes on some things that stood out to me:
Jameer Nelson played well in his first game as a Denver Nugget, especially given the fact that he has had no time to learn the playbook or adjust to his new teammates. It seems pretty clear right away that Brian Shaw likes playing both Nelson and Ty Lawson at the same time.
Wilson Chandler and Arron Afflalo both played 40+ minutes tonight. Wing depth continues to be an issue and Shaw was especially tight with his rotations tonight.
This was a tough test for Nurkic, both offensively and defensively and the rookie had a predictably tough time against the length and craftiness of the Mavericks in the pick and roll. Shaw seemed to lose faith in him and limited him to just 2 minutes in the 2nd half.
The Mavericks followed up their 13-2 start in the 1st half with a 9-2 start to the 2nd half.
Wilson Chandler gave us one of the best highlights of the year with his dunk over Tyson Chandler in a battle of the Chandlers.
